Winner of a 2019 AIA New York State Design Award, this school’s vertical expansion added 14,000 s.f. for a new gymnasium, fitness spaces and classrooms. The lighting system designed for the multi-purpose double height gymnasium consists of dimmable, high output, LED cylinder downlights mounted to the sides of the curved ceiling beams. Wall mounted LED uplights at window walls illuminate the wood ceiling sections and LED flat-panel fixtures mounted to the underside of the balcony light the seating beneath. All lighting is zoned and controlled via a simple preset dimming system to accommodate the various uses of the space. Ancillary and administrative spaces including locker rooms, training areas and classrooms are lit with recessed direct/indirect troffers, recessed downlights and linear pendants.
